Employers Liability

Employer liability insurance  covers your business against any legal action from an employee if an accident or injury occurs at work.

Common injuries for employees in care homes include back, shoulder and neck injuries due to a lot of residents needing physical care.

Public Liability

Public liability is when action is taken by a third party against the business.

This can include allegations from the resident, their family and friends. Common claims cases include the resident having an accident or injury within residence or mistreatment claim by the residents family.

Medical Malpractise

Medical malpractice is when a medical professional does not perform their duties properly.

This is important because if duties are not performed to the health and regulatory standard it can have adverse affects on residents within the care home. An example of malpractise would be providing incorrect medication.

Damage

Why do I need care home insurance?

If you do not have insurance for your care home, your business will be vulnerable as well as your residents and staff. Having insurance protects your business from many risks that may arise in different areas of the business.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) states a business needs to have insurance in place. Other regulators you may need to comply with in this field include: Ofsted (England), Care Inspectorate Wales, Education and Training Inspectorate and Inspectorate of Education.

Employers liability is required by law. Employers liability is when a claim is made by an employee(s) in a business as a result of injury or accident whilst at work. Staff at care homes usually provide physical support to residents which makes the likeliness of injury greater.

Confidence Cover

Ultimately, you need to make sure that you are protected should an unforeseen incident occur. Have you or would you insure your care home online? If so can you confidently know that the product you buy is comprehensive enough to cover you and if it doesn’t have you considered who you are going to turn to? A call-centre in another country?

In the age of the internet many business owners over the years have turned to quick quote online insurers for their care home insurance, however having learned the hard way many are returning to use a trusted broker for their insurance cover, having purchased inferior quality insurance or found they aren’t covered where they thought they should have been or have ‘clicked the wrong button’ which meant there wasn’t cover in place! Don’t put yourself in that same position, insure with a trusted broker.
